It is with extreme sadness that the family of William (Bill) Walker Cellars of Calgary announce his sudden passing on November 3, 2013
at the age of 75.
Bill was the second child born to James (Jim) and Kathleen (Kay) Cellars on August 14, 1938 in Albert Park, AB which was then a small hamlet outside Calgary. After finishing high school at Western Canada High in Calgary, Bill pursued his love of cars and worked part time at gas stations in the Forest Lawn area while training to become an auto service technician. He then began his career at Renfrew Chrysler in Calgary around 1959 and through the years worked his way up to shop foreman until his retirement after nearly 50 years with the company. Bill had an amazing ability to diagnose problems with cars by just listening to the sounds of the vehicle while he drove it. He married Patricia Scott on June 3, 1961in her home town of Canmore, AB and they lived their entire married life together in Calgary where they raised their two daughters.
Bill was a very hard working man who was devoted to his family. When the girls were growing up he strived to give them a fun and enjoyable childhood. Every summer there was a family holiday trip; house boating in BC, fishing in Saskatchewan, Disneyland, Niagra Falls, the Oregon coast, giving them lovely memories that will be treasured forever. He was extremely generous to his family and there were always wonderful unique gifts for birthdays and Christmas. As the girls grew up he helped each of them buy their first car and could always be counted on to keep the vehicles running smoothly. He found much joy in pursuing his hobbies. Earlier in his life he enjoyed fishing and often went on fishing trips with his friends. Later on he began collecting antique license plates and acquired quite an impressive collection. In recent years he bought old classic cars to restore. He really enjoyed searching for original parts for these cars and loved going to swap meets and antique shows.
Bill was a caring, helpful man who many people turned to for mechanical advice on their car and he always enjoyed a good chat about cars and the "old times" with friends. He was deeply loved by his family and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Bill leaves to mourn his passing his two daughters, Laurie(Mark) and Arlen(Tony) as well as his brother Jim(Laurena), sister Katie and nephews Brian, Blaine, David and niece Leslie. He was predeceased by his wife Pat and parents Jim and Kay Cellars.
There was a celebration of Bill's life for family and friends on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the "Dome" in Greenwood Village Mobile Home Park, 3223 - 83 Street NW Calgary.
