It is with sadness at his passing and joy in the celebration of his life that we announce the death of our father Bill, at age 91, on May 27, 2023. Bill passed away peacefully, knowing the love of his family and friends, at St. Martha's Place, Mineral Springs Hospital in Banff, Alberta.
Bill is survived by his children Joanne, Diane, Bruce, Andrea and Kristi (and their mother Joan Elizabeth McClintock) and Hayden and Dalen (and their mother Robbyn Elizabeth Hayden), his grandchildren Jeffrey, Zach, Ashley, Matt, Alex, Tom, Marie, Erika, Ursula, Grace, Logan, Kylee, Braedyn, and Ryan, great-grandchild Ren, and sister Marie Boddy.
Bill was born in East York, Ontario on 17 October 1931. He was a devout and thoughtful Christian, intellectually curious and ecumenical in spirit. He loved "Dad jokes" and humorous ditties from an earlier era. He read widely and liked nothing more than to debate church doctrine, politics, business and world affairs.
Bill was a businessman at heart. He joined his father at Robert McClintock Homes (later McClintock Homes) developing residential areas in Toronto, most notably Bridlewood. He studied business at Western University, then law at Osgoode Law School, forming McClintock Devries LLP and returning later in life to the law at Lilly McClintock & Bowman LLP. Bill had many adventures in business with dramatic ups and downs across the decades. He was still driven to start new ventures into his 80's, much to the bemusement of his children.
When it was inevitably time to slow down, Bill moved to Banff, Alberta to live with his daughter Kristi and her family in their suite. He joined St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, where he formed new friendships.
Fiercely independent and ever with a smile on his face, and no matter the weather, Bill would walk each morning from his suite down Sulphur Mountain to one of his favourite coffee shops for a coffee and muffin. He'd then visit the Banff Public Library to read the papers, before making the return trip back. He loved the mountains and his life in Banff.
Bill moved to Cascade House Seniors Retirement Home in 2019 and then in 2021 to St. Martha's Place at Mineral Springs Hospital. The family wishes to thank the staff of Cascade House and St. Martha's Place for their remarkable love and care for Dad. We knew that he was in the best possible place and was content. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Martha's Place.
Bill gave of his spirit, his love, his faith. We will miss you Dad, but we will always have you with us in our hearts.
