William (Bill) Beaton

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Bill Beaton of Canmore, AB at the age of 86 years

Bill was born to William and Ellen Beaton in Winnipeg, MB. During his lifetime he worked for Manitoba Telephone System, Alberta Government Telephones and TTS before starting his own successful consulting business, Accutel Voice Data. He was previously married and is survived by two sons.

Bill moved from Winnipeg to Calgary in 1980 and moved to Canmore when he retired. Bill was a very active volunteer for many organization including: Boy Scouts, Sturgeon Creek Community Club, Nancy Green Ski Racing, Pop Warner Football, S. James Lions Club, Calgary Stampede Parade, Banff Springs Golf Course, and World Cup Ski Races at Lake Louise. Bill enjoyed meeting people, made many friends and enjoyed having visitors.

Bill was a Level 3 ski instructor, unfortunately he did suffer several very serious ski injuries, but he was always determined to recover and return to skiing. Bill started skiing at Puffin Ski Club at 12 years of age in Winnipeg, where he used to ride the city street car with his ski equipment as a boy. He liked traveling and skied in quite a few places including: British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec.

He also skied in the United States in Idaho, Montana, California and Nevada. One of his favorite places to ski was Japan and he went on five ski trips to Japan.

Bill lived a long and enjoyable life, but age finally caught up to him. His health began to deteriorate and he moved into Origin at Spring Creek in Canmore, where he resided for several years. Bill was predeceased by his brother Donald and sister Margaret and their mother and father. Bill is survived by two sons, Bill and Jim in Winnipeg and a nephew Robert Lee and his two sons Colin and Tristan in Ontario.

The family would like to thank the staff at Morningside, Origin at Spring Creek and the medical staff at the Banff, Canmore and Foothills Hospitals for the care they provide as Bill struggled with health issues in the later years of his life. We also want to express our thanks to Lou Reddin of Kamloops and Naomi Koyama of Canmore and to Krista Chasse, Bill's neighbor in Canmore for their friendship, loyalty and support for our father.

Rest in Peace
