It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Waltraut (Traudl) Mannsberger. Traudl passed away peacefully on December 23rd, 2024 at Golden Eagle View in Canmore. Traudl was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, friend and passionate community volunteer.
Traudl was born in Senftenberg Germany in July, 1933 and travelled throughout Europe in her childhood until finally immigrating to Canada to follow her sister and her family in 1957. She met her future husband, Ernst, through the travelling Toronto Ski Club. While she started her work-life as a dress designer, she was a passionate skier and along with her husband Ernst, became one of the founders of the Alpine Ski Club in Collingwood Ontario. Her passion for skiing led her to becoming an early ski instructor and then along with Ernst, they helped develop the Ontario ski industry, building ski lifts to support the growing ski industry for over 40 years.
Traudl’s other passions were her family, friends and the communities that she lived in. her greatest joy was the time that she got to spend with her son Bruno, daughter-in-law Jennifer and her grandchildren, Chloe and Xavier.
Soon after Ernst passed away in October 2010, Traudl moved to Canmore where she could be closer to her family and follow one of her greatest loves, hiking and skiing in the mountains. While her time to enjoy Canmore was cut short, she considered the time that she spent with family, hiking in the mountains and making new friends in Canmore to be the highlight of her life.
Traudl, we will never forget you, your willingness to always run to the aid of a friend or a complete stranger, an amazing attitude to never say no to any adventure or challenge, and the spirit to never stop trying against any odds.
When she wasn’t outdoors, you could usually find her at the Banff Centre or anyone of the many music concerts throughout the Bow Valley, or supporting one of the many volunteer groups that she enjoyed so much.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Canmore Seniors Association and to the wonderful, caring and attentive staff at Golden Eagle View, who provided Traudl with comfort and dignity during her final years.
