Tracy Morrison

d. March 4, 2015

A few weeks short of her 84th birthday, on March 4, 2015, with dignity, great strength of spirit, a clear mind and tremendous grace, Tracy passed on to the far side of the mountain. Her children were by her side. Tracy's long and active life was filled with many adventures, hard work, challenges and much raucous fun. From her early career years at CHQR, then the years producing Theatre in Calgary to her work forming and running her own very successful ski travel agency "Far Side of the Mountain", Tracy was always fiercely independent, strong-willed, unapologetic and clear in building the life that gave her joy. Tracy possessed great courage and a striking sense of humour about life, right up to her final days. She loved adventure, seeing the world, all things culinary, films, entertaining in style and music from John Denver to Jussi Bjorling. A voracious reader, she loved stimulating conversation and was given to outrageous commentary.

Tracy's greatest joy though, came from her years in Canmore, living in the house that she built, waking up every morning, her dog by her side, with a view of the mountains in full surround. Our mom loved going on road trips with her girlfriends to the far reaches of Canada, hiking with her dear partner Fred and friends, and her daily walks with her dog. She was a familiar sight at Quarry Lake, in summer wearing denim cut-offs, T shirt and cap, and in winter sporting a bright orange ski jacket with her beloved dog Lucy nearby (misbehaving!).

Tracy was one of 9 children and her older brother Terry Rutter ( wife Aine) still live in Calgary. Terry – you won the bet ! ( Last one standing). Predeceased by her husband Gordon Morrison and daughter Kathy Morrison, Tracy leaves behind her partner Fred Malcolm ( Scotland), sons David Morrison (wife Laurie Quon) and Donald Morrison, son-in-law Jim Nicholl, beloved, most adored grandchildren Clyde Valentine ( wife Hali Laferriere) and Sorsha and Colter Morrison all of Calgary and her daughter Barbara (Ali) Morrison (partner Mark Colfer) in Ireland.

Tracy's most faithful companion Lucy The Dog still runs

at Quarry with Fred.

A service of interment was held on Tuesday March 10, 2015 at the Canmore Cemetery. A reception followed for family and friends at Tracy's home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Tracy may be made to a mountain environmental group of the donor's choice.
