Thelma Lissel

d. September 12, 2015

Thelma passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness surrounded by her loving family. Thelma is survived by her much loved children, Byron (Nancy) and Brenda (David). She was extremely proud of her grandchildren Jade and Tyler. She will be fondly remembered by her twin sister Thora, numerous relatives and her wide range of friends.

Thelma was predeceased by her loving husband Norman (2013), her Mom and Dad, Elizabeth (nee Readman) and Petur Thorsteinson; her brothers Stan and Raymond and her sister Lillian (Thorlacius).

Thelma and her twin sister Thora were born on a family farm near Wynyard, Sask. She treasured her many childhood memories. Hours spent in the coulee honed her lifelong love of nature and for the environment.

While attending Normal School in Saskatoon, she met her future husband Norman. They started out farming at Jansen, Sask. and in 1959 moved to Olds, AB. Together they farmed for 54 years.

Her passion for life and never ending curiosity inspired her family and everyone who knew her. Her laughter was infectious, her creativity was astounding, her generosity and hospitality warmed the hearts of many. She strongly believed that nature talks to everyone and as a natural teacher, she taught many how to listen. We will miss her.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary for their outstanding and compassionate care of Thelma.

We especially want to thank Dr. Kao for her expertise that was delivered in such a loving way. Thanks also to Dr. Michelle Deyholos for her care and concern at this difficult time. Bravo all of you.
