Steven Nyilas

Bela Steven Nyilas, beloved husband of Maria, passed away in Calgary following a brief illness. Born in Macomb, Illinois, his family moved to Calgary in the mid 60's where he spent the next 20 years growing up, and enjoying the great outdoors of Alberta. After high school Steven decided to continue his education. Before mastering his profession as a plumber Steven was already working for Banff National Park at the Cave and Basin. Shortly after starting there he was approached to work for the plumbing department for Parks Canada. He then completed his education at SAIT for plumbing. Steven worked tirelessly for the National Park for 30 years making sure it was in top shape for all who visited Banff, but also for the locals of the Bow Valley.

In the late 1980's, Steven went to Hungary to visit relatives, and unknowing this was where he met his wife Maria. Together they started a family of their own in Banff. Survived by his wife of 28 years, they had four children together. Step son Tibor, first born son Nicholas (Breanna), only daughter Monica and the youngest son Michael. Steven was also the middle child of two brothers. The oldest Pal (Janet) and their family and the youngest Thomas, all in Calgary.

Steven lived for his work but always had time for his family, he was always there when his children and wife needed him. Steven took much pride in his work and service to Parks. Whenever Steven got a call for work he would be right on it, no matter what time of day! Steven always jumped at the opportunity to lend a helping hand at work, with the community and with his family. No matter how much work Steven had, family always came first no matter what.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, January 13, 2017

in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Banff. Cremation followed with a family service of interment in Mountain View Cemetery in the Spring.
