Steve Rice

The family is saddened to announce the untimely passing of our brother, Stephen Michael Rice, in Canmore, Alberta. Steve was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and attended Argyle Elementary School and completed some of his high school education while living in Kenya and Newfoundland before graduating from Sheldon-Williams in Regina. Steve completed a degree in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan and later became a highly skilled Journeyman Cabinet Maker.

Steve traveled extensively during his lifetime, but his passion was canoeing the lakes and rivers of Canada. A lot of these trips were undertaken as a solo effort, canoeing the Churchill River systems and the northern territories.

We're taking the liberty of quoting Steve's friend, Wayne: "We lost a good man today. He gave his heart to the land he loved and he showed us the wonder of the north and its waterways. Always a wonderful friend with an introspective that made your own perception valuable. I'm going to miss those chats, Steve, and that wonderful heart. Paddle on, buddy."

Steve will be lovingly remembered by his brothers, Doug (Cat), Jim, and Tom (Deb); nieces and nephews – Chris, Nathan, Meaghan, Kayleigh, Lindsay, Michael, Andrew, Joe, Morgan, Jami, and Mitchell.

Steve was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Dorothy (Gregory) Rice, Sister-in-law Lauren, and nephew Duncan.

Steve spent much of his life in the Canmore community, working and gathering friends. For all those friends that we haven't met, thank you for being there for our brother.

We would appreciate any stories and memories of Steve you may wish to share, which you may leave here.

Steve was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend. We are missing him.

There will be a private service held in Regina at a later date.
