Sonia Mary Thaczuk

Sonia Mary Thaczuk, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, passed away peacefully on October30, 2024, in Canmore, Alberta, at the age of 77. Born on December 8, 1946, in Roblin, Manitoba, Sonia lived a life rich with dedication to her family, her faith, and her community.

Sonia is survived by her loving husband Lawrence Thaczuk, her son Gregory Thaczuk and daughter-in-law Kate, her grandchildren Natalia and Nicholas, as well as her sisters Carol Puritch, Sandra Chalanchuk, and Susan Urbanowski. She was preceded in death by her sister Geraldine Chalanchuk.

After completing her education in Shortdale and Roblin, Sonia pursued her interests in science, attending Bandon College before embarking on a career in Laboratory and Radiology. She began her professional journey in Dauphin, Manitoba, and later moved to Neepawa, where she met Lawrence Thaczuk. Their courtship blossomed into a beautiful marriage, and together they shared a life filled with love, adventure, and devotion to family.

Sonia and Lawrence transitioned between various towns including Carberry, eventually returning to Roblin, where they continued to build their life together. Sonia was not only a dedicated wife but also a perfect mother to their son Gregory, and she cherished every moment with her family. Her grandchildren, Natalia and Nicholas, were her greatest treasures, and she took immense pride in her role as a grandmother.

She is remembered fondly as a kind and welcoming individual who had the unique ability to make everyone feel at ease. Her great sense of humor and wit brought joy to those around her. Sonia’s unwavering faith was central to her life, exemplified through her involvement in catechism and pro-life activities. She also found joy in tending to her garden, where she often reflected on the beauty of life.

Friends and family are invited to a Prayer Service on November 5, 2024, at 7:00 PM followed by a Mass on November 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Both services will be held at The Shrine Church of Our Lady of the Rockies, located at 2 Silvertip Trail, Canmore, Alberta, followed by a Graveside Service at 1:00 PM in the Canmore Cemetery. 

Sonia Mary Thaczuk will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, faith, and family will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
