On February 28, 2012 Rudolph Heinz Erbsland passed away, leaving his gentle blue eyes, easy smile, kind words and boundless optimism to continue in our hearts and memories. Rudi was born in Karlsruhe
July 11, 1931 and was raised in Braeunlingen in the Black Forest of Germany. Pre-deceased by his parents and only brother, he immigrated in 1954 and travelled all of Canada before settling in Banff. He made the Bow Valley his home and loved all that the Rocky Mountains have to offer.
Rudi worked as a mechanic for the Parks and his passion for automobiles led him to restore many classic vehicles. Rudi also undertook several business ventures including Pinky's laundry in Banff, a campground in Invermere and the construction of several homes in the Bow Valley. As a ski instructor at Norquay, he shared his love of skiing with a bunch of lucky local kids and many people throughout the world.
Rudi is lovingly missed by his caring and devoted partner Marty - together they travelled, danced, sang and loved life. He will be joyfully remembered by his daughter Frances and son in law Robin along with his granddaughters Erin (Scott) and Erica (Garret) and great granddaughter Hannah. He will also be missed by Marty's daughters Beatrice (Albin) and Franziska (Guy) and grandchildren Sylvia, Daniel, Tobias, Iris and Anja.
Rudi's family would like to extend special thanks and gratitude to the Canmore EMS and the staff at the Canmore Hospital, in particular Chris for his care and humor and Brenda for her compassion and gentle guidance.
Cremation has taken place and a private celebration of Rudi's life will be held at a future date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends wishing to remember Rudi may make donations, in his memory, to the
