Ross Gilmar

d. February 27, 2011

Ross passed away peacefully at St. Martha's Place in Banff where he had been a resident for one year receiving the best care by a dedicated and loving staff. Ross' family will be forever grateful to the staff of St. Martha's and the staff in Acute Care at Mineral Springs Hospital.

Ross was born in Blairmore, Alberta, the ninth child of ten to Ruby and Clarence Gilmar. In 1958, Ross followed his three brothers to Banff where he started his career with Public Works, retiring in 1997. During his time in Banff, he was able to enjoy his passions of fishing, horseback riding, helping with hockey and coffeeing with friends. Ross was an avid hockey fan, supporting the Calgary Flames and the Ottawa Senators. He had just received an Honorary Lifetime Membership to the Banff Light Horse Association.

Ross was the cherished "Unc" to 27 nieces and nephews, great uncle to twice that number and great-great uncle to many more. He was also special "Unc" to generations of kids at the horse corral, and generations of BCHS grads.

His siblings, Margy, Mickey, Myrtle, Edie, Leah, Fonnie, and Billy predeceased Ross. He is survived by his brother, Larry, in Banff and his sister, Claire-Anne in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

A Celebration of Life was held at the Banff Senior's Centre on Sunday, February 27, 2011.

In lieu of flowers, if friends wish, memorial tributes may be made to Mineral Springs Hospital or St. Martha's Place, P.O. Box 1050, Banff. T1L 1H7
