Robert (Bob) Lawn

d. November 2, 2012

Robert Cullen (Bob) Lawn was born in Barrhead, Scotland on

February 23, 1928 the fifth son of James and Elizabeth Lawn.

He spent his growing up years in Barrhead. In his late teens, Bob drove

double-decker buses in Paisley and later worked in the shipyards. When he turned 18 he joined the war effort as a tank driver.

Bob married Jessmay Caldwell and after the birth of their three children, Joan Elizabeth, Irene and Robert John, they immigrated in 1956 to Calgary, Canada.

Bob worked on the building of Spy Hill Jail for eleven years and then decided to head out on his own. He received his plumbing, gas fitting license from SAIT and formed his own plumbing company –

R.Lawn Plumbing and did very well.

During this time, Jessmay gave birth to twin daughters, Laura and Janice. The family lived in a single family home in Southwest Calgary.

They purchased a motor home and the family did quite a bit of travelling through the United States, particularly San Diego, California.

When the children were older, Bob and Jessmay moved their motor home to Mesa, Arizona and eventually purchased a park model.

Bob spent 14 years going to Mesa in the winter and singing in a large Barbershop group.

In the summer, the family had a trailer at Restwell Trailer Park in Canmore and Bob vacationed and worked on the # 6 washhouse and other projects while there,

Bob lost his wife Jessmay to leukemia and then in 2007 his eldest daughter, Joan died as a result of breast cancer.

This was an especially hard time for him.

Bob eventually sold his Mesa property and moved to Canmore permanently where he resided until his passing.

While living in Canmore, Bob took a keen interest in the Canmore Seniors Association, especially the Songsters. This was where he met Fran McTaggart and in 2008 they became a couple. They travelled to Scotland and Newfoundland/Labrador and made many short trips through Alberta and British Columbia and were very happy

together.

Bob is survived by his love and best friend, Fran, his son-in-law Jack Wood, his nephew Jim Lawn and wife Rozeanne and by many relatives in Scotland.

A Royal Canadian Legion Service of Tribute will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 2, 2012 in the Field of Honor in the Canmore Cemetery. A Celebration of Bob's Life will then follow at the Three Sisters Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion in Canmore.
