On August 22, 1969 Robert came into the world with his sister Jane,
in Waterloo, Ontario. He had a fun filled childhood with summers at the family cottage, annual trips to Florida, and neighbourhood fun on
"275" Shakespeare Drive. One of many fond childhood memories is his laughter that often turned into full bellied hiccups.
He graduated from the University of Waterloo with degree in Environmental Studies. In his 20's, Robert moved to Montreal and this led to travels to Europe, Central America, Australia, Guam, Korea and then Japan, where he lived for many years. He loved Japan, where he taught English, immersing himself in the Japanese culture.
He returned to Canada 3½ years ago, settling in Canmore with his family and we were so happy to have him back with us. He worked at Valbella and the Iron Goat where he truly loved the banter of the kitchen environment, showing up early to savour coffee.
His love of Roman history, rigid use of the 24 hour clock and metric system, along with his endless battle to save the English language always brought smiles to our faces. His encyclopaedic memory for every family event reminded us of the importance of family.
Also in our minds was his knowledge of all things to do with science fiction, especially Star Trek. The highlight of his week was his
downtown visit, in full Japanese regalia to the Hogshead and Gaucho. He was a quirky addition to the family, with a quick sense of humour and a kind heart.
Predeceased by his loving mother Sheila, he will always be remembered fondly by his father Charles, big brother David,
twin sister Jane, brother in law Robin, sister in law Susie, his two
nephews Dexter and Morgan, his niece Myla and other extended
family and friends.
We know our family and those that came to know him will share a smile in his memory. Thanks to Dr. Quinlan and others who helped care for him. Those wishing to can make a small donation to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation, save the 24 hour clock or any charity of their choice.
There will be a gathering for Robert at the Iron Goat, Monday,
January 9, 2017 from 17:00-19:00
Services provided by Russ Reynolds and Bow River Funeral Service.
