Richard Dozois

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Dozois announce his passing in Banff, at the age of 76 years, after a long battle with cancer.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Melva; children Michel, Susie, Rick, Robert and Lori and grandchildren Kristine, Brayden, Erica, Rebecca, Connor, Mark, Matthew, Kennedy, Destiny, Evan and Tate. He is also survived by his brothers Ray and Andreau and sister Pierette and their families. Richard was predeceased by his father Emile, mother Clara, sister Madeline and brother Tico.

Richard was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. He moved to Banff in 1962 to work for Mr. Ossi Treutler at the Paris Restaurant. Richard also worked in a number of other places, however, many will remember him as the meat cutter at Whites Foodmaster, a position he held for years.

Richard is going to be sadly missed by his family, friends and all those who had the pleasure to know him. Many of you, who knew him well, also knew that despite a tough exterior, Richard was a generous man who had a heart as big and as warm as the sun.

A memorial service was held for Richard on Friday, December 17, 2010 at Our Lady of the Rockies Parish - St. Mary's Catholic Church in Banff, Alberta.

Following the service friends were invited to join the family at the Banff Royal Canadian Legion for a time of refreshments and a celebration of Richard's life.

Richard's Service of Internment will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery in Banff, Alberta in the spring 2011.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory, to the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital, Bag 1050, Banff, AB T1L 1H7.
