Richard Boruta

It is with deep sadness that the family of Richard Boruta announce that Richard was killed during a climbing accident on Three Sisters.

He was 49 years old.

Richard will be lovingly remembered by his wife Kamila; sons, Michal, Thomas and Lukas; daughter-in-law Petra; granddaughter Sophie; mother Jirina; father Richard; mother-in-law Helena; and father-in-law Joseph. Richard will also be forever remembered by extended family and many friends.

A lifelong athlete and adventurer, Richard was born and raised in Prague, Czech Republic, attended Charles University in Prague, graduating with Master's degree in Physical Education, and starting his career as a biathlon coach in 1993. After living in Austria for several years, he eventually made Canmore his new home in 1998. Here he lived life to the fullest as a loving husband, father, coach, business owner, and an important member of our community.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff and athletes at the Canmore Nordic Centre, the crew at Kananaskis Public Safety for their rescue efforts as well as the many friends and acquaintances in the Bow Valley and around the world for their outpouring of support.

A Celebration of Life was held at the Canmore Nordic Centre Day Lodge on Friday, August 18.

Friends wishing to remember Richard are encouraged to make a donation, in his memory, to support the Biathlon Alberta Training Centre. The only way to get a tax receipt is through Alberta Sport Connection. When they forward the funds they will tell us that it is for Athlete Development.
