Peter Strickland

The Strickland family is sad to announce the passing of Peter Strickland on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.

Peter was born on November 25, 1931, in Muirkirk, Scotland. He had four brothers and four sisters. Two sisters, Betty and Margaret, still live in Scotland.

Peter and Billie Blackwood were married on September 14, 1957. They had three children: Robert, William, and Nancy.

Peter worked as a coal miner in Scotland; wanting a better life for his family, they moved to Yateley, England, in 1969, where he worked at a Convent as the groundskeeper.

In November 1975, the family moved to Canmore, where Peter worked at Brewster until his retirement in 1997. On September 14, 1997, he and Billie celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Sadly, Billie passed away shortly after that.

Peter loved Canmore and joked with everyone he met. You may not have understood him, due to his thick Scottish accent, but it didn't matter, you just agreed with him and laughed. He loved the mountains, long drives, hiking, bike rides, Saturday garage sales, gardening, animals, but most of all his family.

Nancy, his daughter, sadly passed away in June 2019. He leaves behind his sons: Robert (Angelina), and William (Robyn); his grandchildren: Bobby Lee, Vanessa (Allan), Stephanie (James), Matthew, Roman, and Mackenzie; and three great-grandsons: Leo, Perry, and Owen.

A Celebration of Life for Peter was held on Saturday April 1, 2023,

at the Canmore Legion.
