"Peter" means rock. And so he was aptly named. A friend, son, brother, husband, dad, Papa and Unc; he was the foundation of many relationships and the bedrock of the many communities he built and shared around him. On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, this great and loving man passed suddenly while tending his tomatoes. William Peter Rollason grew up in Toronto, spending summers in Muskoka with his parents Margaret and Bill, and younger sister Pam. He attended Leaside High, then on to Trinity College at the University of Toronto where he met his lifelong partner and best friend Sue. He became a Chartered Professional Accountant, and retired as the Chief Financial Officer of Royal Lepage. He and Sue grew a family together, and while Peter wanted many many children, they eventually settled on three, Heather, Michael and Leslie. He was an amazing dad to his children. One of his most loving moments is when he helped his daughter Leslie realize her value by renaming her Morely (deceased). After retiring, Peter and Sue chose to move to Canmore where they built a new family of wonderful friends through Rotary, volunteering, coffee shops, church, neighbours, others who liked to go on adventures, and of course his Georgetown Institute friends. Peter's family continued to grow through his children, welcoming through Heather, her husband Neil and their two children Maddy and Zac; and then through Michael, his wife Cristina and their two children Diego and Sophia. Being Papa to his four grandchildren was truly one of his favourite roles; they were dear to his heart and always on his mind. Peter loved chocolate chip cookies, good coffee, and chocolate ice cream. Peter enjoyed the outdoors and being active. He grew up playing hockey and during university played varsity waterpolo. He enjoyed paddling in his red canoe, fishing, biking, X-country and down-hill skiing, gardening, golfing, and of course walking all around Canmore. He loved soccer, and especially enjoyed catching a game with his dear friend Michael V. He liked to travel: he and Sue went to Hawaii for many winters, and most recently they enjoyed a cruise through the Panama Canal. Peter was a humble person and generous spirit. He was incredibly intelligent which he used expressly to create mischief and bring humour. He was playful, witty, curious, loyal and loving. With his passing our foundation has cracked, but it will remain strong because of how he built it. We thank all who loved and supported Peter. For those who wish to do so, donations may be directed to the Canmore Rotary Club Charitable Foundation, in the hopes of continuing his wish to build inclusive and healthy communities:
A Celebration of Peter's Life for friends and family was held on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at the Canmore Golf Club
