Pauline Marra passed away in the early morning hours on
January 1, 2015 at the Canmore Hospital. Pauline was born
October 28, 1936 in Canmore and spent her childhood and part of her early adult life here. After a brief journey to the "big city" as a young woman where she worked for Prudential Insurance in Calgary, she returned to Canmore and in 1962 she married Connel Marra.
In 1966 they had a son, Marc and in 1968 the family moved to Calgary. Pauline returned to her true home, Canmore, in 2004 after her loving husband of 42 years passed away.
Upon her return to Canmore she joined The Meanderthals, a local senior's hiking club. Pauline also was very involved in the Canmore community, volunteering for numerous agencies in the Valley, including The NWMP Barracks, The Canmore Museum and Geosciences Centre and the Canmore Folk Festival. Her contributions to the community were dearly missed as her illness progressed.
Pauline was predeceased by her sister Winnie Pringle in 1979 and her brother Doug Rogers in 2006. She is lovingly remembered by her son Marc (Margaret) Marra of Calgary, sister Joan (Ben) Stroh of Spruce Grove and Linda Burgie (Val, deceased) of Canmore. Pauline will also be dearly missed by many of her in-laws; Ron and Virginia Marra of Canmore, Lionel and Marion Marra of Calgary, Rick Heikkila of Canmore and Lori and Dave McNabb of Calgary. She will also be missed by all her friends at the Bow River Senior's Lodge in Canmore.
Pauline's passion was the mountain terrain, flora and fauna of the Bow Valley from her early childhood up to and including recent years. She has written poetry and prose describing the beauty of the Valley.
A "Fond Farewell"
I have seen the glory of the changing seasons
A time of splendour –the rhyme, the reasons
Have loved "my mountains" with great delight
Watched my "Canada Geese" on their southern flight
All the glories, soft mossy mountain trails and waterfalls
The moon in its magnificence; the loons haunting calls
I have been high above valleys where the eagles soar
Have trampled in the forest and heard a snow slide roar
I have loved and been loved, happy to have been given birth
Were this not the case I would not have seen this splendid earth
To this glorious earth I bid a "Fond Farewell"
Knowing that on this same earth my being shall forever dwell.
