Pauline Leong (Scherba) passed away at the Canmore Hospital early Tuesday morning. She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1986 and her daughter Audrey in 2011. She will be missed by daughter Beverley (Tony) and sons Dick (Marie) and Jim. She also leaves nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren as well as two sisters, Ann Lipton and Bessie Schmanski and many nieces and nephews.
Pauline was one of nine children. She was born in Sarto, Manitoba after which the family moved to the Okanagan area in the 1920's and started an apple orchard. She met Jack in Kamloops and they were married in Vancouver and then moved to Lethbridge where they raised four children. They then moved to Magrath for a few years, and then settled in Canmore in 1949. They owned and operated two cafes and cabins…"Leong's Café and Cabins" until 1967.
After retirement Pauline's favorite pastime was to bake cookies and bread and forage for wild mushrooms, which she would share. She loved playing Bingo and cards with her family and her many friends. Pauline lived in her own home until this past summer when old age finally caught up with her. Recently she moved into the Golden Eagle View at the Canmore Hospital.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, staff and everyone for their kind assistance and loving care. The family would also like to thank Barbara Parker, Jan Tissandier, and Lee Ann Decoteau for their help in Pauline's funeral service.
Funeral service was held on Monday, October 22, 2012 in St. Michaels Anglican church hall. She was then be laid to rest with her beloved Jack in the Canmore Cemetery.
