Paula Hanson

On May 25, 2018, in her home, Paula passed away surrounded by family and flowers.

Paula was born in Calgary, one of six children to Frank and Bertha Hanson. Bertha was widowed with six children when Paula was four; Paula carried Bertha's indomitable spirit into the next generation.

As a child, she was athletic and gregarious. She followed her passion for outdoor pursuits and literature all through her education, professional and personal life. Paula began her teaching career

with the Fort McMurray Public School District, where for 25 years, she was a teacher, teacher-librarian, principal and mentor to teachers, students and administrators. In 2005, Paula moved to Canmore, AB where she was the principal of Lawrence Grassi School, leading the construction of the new school recognized for its sustainable design and positive educational environment.

In 2015 she retired as principal from Exshaw School.

Paula was happiest outdoors, in her garden and in the mountains — hiking, running, canoeing, skiing — and encouraging others, both young and old, to share her passions. She loved travelling the world with Jeff and spending time with family and friends.

Paula was many things to many people. She was a soul mate, mother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, friend and bon vivant. Paula

was a spirited soul, kind, brave, generous, fierce and funny.

We are all better for having shared time and love with her.

Paula is survived by her husband Jeff Lodge, her children, Stuart

and Emma Lodge, siblings Liz, Kay (Ken), Peter, Hildy (Guy), and Frank (Garry), in-laws Leslie (Gary) and Bill, wonderful nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and friends all of whom she loved dearly.

There was a Celebration of Life for Paula at Exshaw School

on Saturday, June 2, 2018.
