Paul Frank Ziska, resident of Canmore since 1993, passed away peacefully at the Canmore Hospital with his wife, daughter and granddaughter at his side, following an extended illness.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Jeannie, two sons, Garry in Brampton, ON, Michael (Sharon) in Victoria, his daughter Suzie in Iqaluit, Nunavut as well as seven grandchildren; Lance, Darryl, Victoria, Chase, Cassidy, Oolahnee and Paul and one great grandson Jacob. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Paul worked in Northern Canada as a heavy duty mechanic, fixing things where ever they broke down. He enjoyed flying his own airplane throughout the North. He met Jeannie in Pangnirtung, Nunavut in 1969 and continued to work for North West Power Corp (a federal government agency) in Rankin Inlet. He continued this work until he retired and they moved to Canmore.
In Canmore, Paul got tired of being retired, and went back to work driving taxi, where he made many friends throughout the community. He also worked as a shuttle driver with Sky Shuttle going into the Calgary airport and bringing people back into the valley, regaling them with his stories and insights into the mountain lifestyle.
A gathering of friends and family was held on Tuesday,
December 30, 2014 at the Canmore Royal Canadian Legion
where people came and shared their stories of Paul.
