Patricia Rose Smith passed away peacefully on September 28 after a short illness at the age of 91. Pat’s life was filled with much love, and genuine affection. She was proud and loving mom to Susan who will miss her dearly; stepmom to Colin (Dorrit), Kathy (Andy), Marjory (Vern), Doreen (d.2023) (Harvey). Pat was proud to be called Grandma Pat to Jodi Lea (Wade) and Eric (Melanie) and their children. Pat will be dearly missed by her nephew James and niece Sharon (Wade).
Pat was predeceased by her husband Samuel Smith (1984) and later her best friend Henry (Bus) Sherwood (1992), brother Robert Vomastic (1995), parents Suzie (1971) and William Vomastic (1975).
Pat lived in Canmore for 65 years and worked at various housekeeping jobs at Canmore and Banff motels. Pat’s most rewarding job was at the Bow River Lodge where you would often find her playing a lively game of pool with the residents!
Mom was never happier than when she was planting flowers and making her garden beautiful. As an avid gardener she was a proud winner of the Communities in Bloom competition.
The family is grateful to the staff at Canmore Hospital Golden Eagle View, your love and care for Pat was exceptional. Thank you to the Emergency and Acute Care staff for your wonderful care and support. Thank you Dr. Barrick for taking such good care of Pat over the years.

Mother’s Garden
My mother loved the flowers,
Each season brought new blooms.
With Joy she’d plant and till and weed,
It chased away her glooms.
She knew the names of all she tended,
A master of her trade.
Her Hand were strong and knew no wrong,
The best God ever made.
She tried to teach me all she knew,
But little did I care. For if I needed flowers,
My mother would be there.
My mother loved her garden,
‘Til Heaven she did go.
Where growing seasons never end,
And blooms don’t fade, but grow.
And I now I tend the flowers,
A love that’s real and true.
For when I’m in my garden, Mom,
I’m closest there to you.
