Patricia Mary Booth

d. September 26, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia (Patsy) Booth on September 18 at Golden Eagle View in Canmore. Patsy leaves behind her beloved husband of 63 years Malcolm. Her loving son David and daughter in law Susan. Patsy is also survived by her sisters, Doreen who lives in Wales and Maureen now living in Australia. She will be missed terribly by her grandsons Dominic and Nic of whom she was extremely proud and who were tremendously close to their Nan and their respective partners Carole and Kari. She derived great pleasure from her great grandchildren Lily and Rhiannon. Her ever present smile became larger whenever her grandchildren and great grandchildren were mentioned.

Patsy was born in Cardiff, Wales May 3 1924. Brought up in Cardiff she joined the WAAF, in defiance of her father, as a teleprinter operator and worked in such locations as Leighton Buzzard and Air Ministry London. After the war she met Malcolm and in 1949 they were married and emigrated to Canada settling in Pt Moody BC. Patsy and Malcolm however, did not stay in Canada returning to Wales by which time their son David was born. Patsy worked again as a teleprinter operator this time for Shell Mex. Moving to the Torbay area of South Devon, England in the mid-fifties with Malcolm's work, Patsy started with the Post Office as a telegraphist continuing until her retirement in 1984. Both Patsy and Malcolm loved music and were actively involved in amateur operatics. Patsy loved musicals and particularly loved to dance. When Patsy retired she and Malcolm moved back to Wales settling in their lovely bungalow in Portskewett, Gwent. As well as being involved with the Caldicott Operatic Society, Patsy found Lawn Bowls, a game she excelled at, winning many team and individual awards. Patsy's son David had moved to Canmore after a long career in the Royal Air Force and in 2006 Patsy and Malcolm joined David and Sue in Canmore. Although missing her bowls Patsy was able to continue her love of singing with the Canmore Seniors songsters and enjoyed social gatherings at the Legion with friends. She loved taking walks and sitting by the Bow River watching the world go by.

Unfortunately with the onset of dementia her health started to deteriorate. She moved to Golden Eagle View in Canmore in 2011 where she spent the remainder of her days being lovingly cared for by the wonderful caring staff and her doctor Gerry Duggleby who went above and beyond the call of duty in his care for her over the years.

Patsy will be fondly remembered for her smile and dry wit. She doted on Dominic and Nic, Lily and Rhiannon. Throughout her time at Golden Eagle View she enjoyed the activities and in particular the singing. Everyone she touched will always have a place in their hearts for her.

Memorial funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in Our Lady of the Rockies Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canmore.

Flowers gratefully declined. Friends wishing to remember Patsy may make donations, in her memory, to the Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation, for use in the Golden Eagle View, 1100 Hospital Place, Canmore, AB T1W 1N2
