Murray A. Wallace

Murray Alexander Wallace passed away in Canmore at the age of

63 years. Murray is survived by his wife, Karin, his two daughters

Erin (Ryan), Heather (Kevin), brother, Bob Wallace, sister, Jeanne Good and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Stewart Wallace and his mother Mary Wallace.

Murray was born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He had an inquisitive mind, loved exploring and the outdoors. As a youngster he developed a lifelong love for the sport of skiing and highlights of his youth included ski trips to the mountains with family and friends to hone his skiing skills. He achieved his CSIA Level IV Instructor and worked at various ski resorts in Western Canada. Eventually this passion led to settling down in the Town of Canmore where he augmented his ski career with a building profession in the non-winter months.

In 1979 Murray met Karin and they built their first home in Canmore in 1981 – the same year they were married. In 1984 they celebrated the arrival of their first daughter Erin and then, being so thrilled with that experience, Erin's sister, Heather arrived in 1986. Murray took great joy in getting his girls on skis early in life and sharing his passions of skiing and hiking in the mountains with his family. Whether on the downhill slopes or in the back country or cross country skiing at the Canmore Nordic Centre, some of Murray's best days were when he was with his kids and on his skis.

Also, in 1981, Murray took his building profession to the next level and incorporated his construction business, Palisade Construction. He was a talented and creative builder and has left a legacy of many beautiful homes in the Bow Valley that have his special touch. He loved and took great pride in his work and always strove for the highest quality of workmanship and aesthetic.

Murray will be remembered by all as a gentle, kind and

soft spoken man with a quirky wit and a generous heart.

He will be profoundly missed.

A gathering of Family and Friends was held at the Canmore Golf Clubhouse on Friday, November 18.

The Family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all of the health care providers and community members that provided both support and care for Murray.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Murray's name can be made to The Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation, 1100 Hospital Place, Canmore T1W 1N2 for use in the Canmore Hospital.
