Mike "Dzedo" Slivka passed away peacefully at his home in Canmore.
Mike was born in Regina, Sask. August 17, 1929. At a young age the family returned to Slovakia.
In 1949, Mike married Mary and in 1952 they returned together to Canada. He worked as a coal miner for 28 years in East Coulee, Shaughnessy and Canmore mines. After the closure of the Canmore mines, he worked at the Banff Center until his retirement.
Mike was predeceased by his wife Mary in 2003 and by
his sister Anna.
He is survived by his three children; Mary (Dwain), Annie (Darrel) and Michael (Audri) as well as grandchildren Paula, David (Carie), Krista (Derrick), Jessica and great grandchildren Leigha, Savannah, Sydney, Kiara, David and Hendrix.
Funeral Mass was Celebrated Wednesday, November 5, 2014 in Our Lady of the Rockies Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Canmore.
Following Mass, Mike was laid to rest in the Canmore Cemetery with Mary.
