Mike passed away peacefully on Sunday March 13, 2011 at the Canmore hospital at the age of 90 years.
Mike was born in Quebec City and raised in Montreal. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces during WW II, landing during D Day at Normandy and was involved in the campaigns through Normandy and Holland.
After the war, Mike worked in the Fire Protection Industry in Quebec and Alberta. During that time, Mike served on the Alberta Fire Council.
After retirement, Mike served as a director with the Alberta Senior Citizens Sports and Recreation Association and helped establish the Canadian Senior Games & Alpine Ski Club. Always active, Mike enjoyed skiing, hiking, fishing, curling, bike riding, and golfing.
Mike will be deeply missed by his wife of 29 years, Cathie, his daughters Adele Williamson, Carmen Boulter, Deborah McPherson, grandchildren Jacqueline and Malcolm Williamson, and nieces Fran Thomson and Georgette Gogniat. Mike was sadly predeceased recently by his grandson, Galen Boulter, and sister, Stella Gogniat. Mike also leaves to mourn him his extended step family, Hal and Carol Knox, Steve and Celia Penman, Jim Penman and their children.
The family would like to thank the staff of the hospital and Eagle View in Canmore.
In accordance with Mike's wishes, a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 19 at 2pm at the Creekside Hall, Canmore Senior Center, 600B 9 Street. Please bring fond memories to share.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's memory can be made to the Canmore Senior Center.
