Michael Elwood Laub

In the early morning of December 28, 2012, Michael Laub, one of the Bow Valley's dearest inhabitants, left us peacefully in his sleep.

He leaves with the community his loving wife, best friend and constant companion, Marsha; and the pride of his life, his younger daughter, Aviva. He is traveling to meet his darling elder daughter, Marika, somewhere in the alpine meadows of Lake O'Hara that they held dear for her too-short 18 years. O'Hara was Michael's passion: he left the tenured security of academia for the changing seasons of its peaks and valleys – the better to spend time with his family and, with Marsha, to raise their girls in the finest manner they could imagine.

Michael asked for no tears and no ceremony to mark his passing;

he asked instead that each of his friends do as he loved: spend a day in nature, raise a fine glass of wine, hold your family close – and in each of these things, take him with you.

For then he will always be with us.
