Malcolm Booth

d. January 12, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Malcolm Charles Booth on January 12, 2015 at Golden Eagle View Long Term Care in Canmore. Predeceased by his beloved wife Patsy with whom he spent 63 years, he leaves behind his sister Eileen and his son David and daughter in law Susan. He will be missed by grandsons Dominic and Nic, of whom he was extremely proud, their spouses Carole and Kari and great granddaughters Lily and Rhiannon who would always bring a smile to his face.

Malcolm was born in Newport, Wales on September 13, 1925. Brought up in Newport, he joined the Merchant Navy, serving as a sub lieutenant during World War II in the Atlantic and Mediterranean theatres. On demobilization he followed his father into the timber industry travelling extensively in Scandinavia. He met the love of his life, Patsy in Cardiff and they were married in 1949, travelling immediately after the wedding to Port Moody in British Columbia where he had gained a position with a timber company. Their son David was born in 1950 and they moved back to Wales, but Malcolm returned to Canada for a number of years to work. Returning to the UK, he went to school and qualified as a chiropodist. Patsy and Malcolm then moved to South Devon where he worked for Scholls before branching out in his own practice and then with Devon County Council.

Malcolm loved music and could play a multitude of instruments, his favourites being the organ, violin and classical guitar. Blessed with a good voice, he and Patsy enjoyed amateur opera. When Patsy retired they moved back to South Wales, settling in Portskewett where Malcolm again worked for the local council as a chiropodist.

As well as the local operatic society, he was a member of the

Chepstow Male Voice Choir and played violin in a ceilidh band.

In 2006 Malcolm and Patsy moved to Canada to be with their son David. Unfortunately, Malcolm had suffered a stroke in 2000 and his mobility suffered somewhat and he was unable to enjoy his subsequent years to the full. After Patsy passed in 2012, he moved into Golden Eagle View where he spent the remainder of his days being lovingly cared for by the amazing staff and his doctor Gerry Duggleby.

Malcolm will be fondly remembered, a very proud and independent person. He had a dry wit, affectionately know as 'Grumps' by his family. With his sudden passing we have lost a character without whom the world will be a poorer place.

Memorial funeral service for Malcolm was held on Wednesday,

January 21, 2015 in Our Lady of the Rockies Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Canmore. A gathering of friends and family followed at the Canmore Royal Canadian Legion.

Flowers gratefully declined. Friends wishing to remember Malcolm may make donations, in his memory, to the Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation, for use in the Golden Eagle View Long Term Care, 1100 Hospital Place, Canmore, AB T1W 1N2
