Lynne Starrs Lilley (Fernie) passed away peacefully
on January 12, 2015 after a courageous two year battle with cancer. She was comforted in her final moments by the bedside presence of her son and daughter, Robin & Jenna, close friend Penny Lawless and her life-long best friend Barbara Parkinson.
Lynne was born in Dundee, Scotland in 1949, immigrated to Canada with her family in 1955 and grew up in Toronto. She and Barbara followed her older brother Stewart out to Banff in the late 70's where she enjoyed a career in the hospitality industry in Banff and Lake Louise. She eventually took her talents to the banking industry, where she worked in a variety of capacities at ATB, and Concentra Financial before she settled in with First Calgary Savings & Loan as a Compliance Manager in their Commercial Banking Department.
Throughout her professional career, Lynne was well-liked by her fellow workers for her pleasant personality and friendly demeanour; and respected by her employers for her dedication, loyalty, conscientious work ethic and positive outlook. Her many friends and acquaintances will miss her cheerful and fun loving comradery … that warm smile winning smile. twinkling glint in her eyes and the occasional sharp witticism.
Lynne developed a love of horses while in Toronto working at the Woodbine Race Track, and nurtured that passion In Banff and Bragg Creek where she enjoyed ring work with her quarterhorse, Jinx, under the tutelage of noted horseman, Bob Eklin. More recently, Lynne enjoyed world travelling, visiting friends in England and South Africa and her son in New Zealand; while enjoying the beaches of Mexico with her daughter and friends.
Lynne is survived and will be sadly missed by her loving brother Stewart Fernie, sister in law Linda Fernie, adoring children Robin & Jenna Lilley, and their father Brian Lilley. She also leaves behind a nephew and niece, Michael and Morgan Fernie. Lynne was predeceased by her parents Mary (Baxter) and William Fernie, and her faithful dog Odie.
The family would like to extend its gratitude to her many friends and colleagues who provided extraordinary support and comfort to her during the past two years; and the compassionate and caring medical staff who tended her in Calgary and Banff during her final days.
According to Lynne`s wishes, she has been cremated, and her ashes will be cared for by her children before being scattered at a future date in a place of her choosing. As she also requested, her many friends and associates are invited to a memorial service in celebration
of her life at the Banff Royal Canadian Legion
at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 8th, 2015.
