Lois Ann Straw

Lois Ann Straw passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2025 in Canmore at 68 years of age, ending her 18-year battle with breast cancer. Lois was born to Edgar and Ethyl Mason on June 28, 1956 in Macklin, Saskatchewan, one of ten siblings.

She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Bob, and is survived by her loving husband John, her son Sean, her siblings Laura, Eric, Charlotte, Pat, Fred, Norma Jean, Clifford and Joanne and many nieces and nephews.

After first coming to Canmore for a summer in 1977 Lois discovered a passion for the wild beauty of the mountains, and loved hiking, biking, camping and running in the wilderness, and identifying the flowers and birds she found. She made many wonderful friends who shared her passion for the mountains, and who will miss her dearly.

Lois worked as a bookkeeper and medical billing specialist for many local businesses and doctors before retiring in 2019.

There will be a memorial service in Canmore at a later date.

The family would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Henning, the staff at Tom Baker Cancer Center, Dr. Weiss and staff at Serac Eye Center and the medical and nursing team at Canmore General Hospital.
