Lil Sawyers

Lillian Olga Sawyers, (nee Lasonak) also known as "Diamond Lil" passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Monday, February 18, 2013 in the Canmore Hospital.

Lil was predeceased by her loving husband Gerry (January 15, 2012); her father Andy (1956); her mother Annie (1978) and her sister Rosie (2003).

Lil is survived by her sister Tillie of Ottawa and daughters Cathy and Karen and their families; her sister Elsie (Gordon) of Saskatoon and their sons Kurtis (Charmain) and their children Abby and Kade, Robin (Marnie) and their children Emma Reese and Sophia Anna; her sister Betty Ann (Glenn) of North Battleford and their daughters Sherri (Darren) and their children Katelan and Deelan, Crystal (Paul) and their children Breagh and Bennett.

Lil was born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. At the age

of 18, she moved to Edmonton for a few years and later to Calgary.

Lil was a long time employee of Woodwards (Chinook). Lil and Gerry married in 1967 and spent almost 45 years together. Later, moving to Canmore, Lil was employed from 1986 to 1988 with Alberta Tourism at Barrier Lake Info Center in Kananaskis. These were the best years as Lil met people from all over the world. Lil also worked for some time as Lunchroom Supervisor at Elizabeth Rummel and Lawrence Grassi Elementary schools in Canmore.

Over the years, Lil did lots of volunteering including the Canmore Hospital Tuck Shop and was very involved with Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Lil and Hilda Langlois formed the original Canmore Cancer Support Group, and she participated every year starting in 2001 in the Relay for Life.

in Our Lady of the Rockies Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church

in Canmore. A Mass of the Resurrection for Lil was celebrated on Monday, February 25, 2013 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canmore. Cremation wfollowed and she will be laid to rest in the Canmore Cemetery Columbarium at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to remember Lil, may make a donation, in her memory to the charity of their choice.
