Leo passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on February 15, 2012 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary.
Leo lived a long and full life. He emigrated from Austria to Canada in 1953 and worked in various jobs including construction of the DEW line in the far north. Eventually, he worked his way up to construction supervisor and supervised many construction projects including bridges in Calgary and the Banff overpass.
In 1954, he married Sabine Prodinger and became the proud father of twins a year later.
The Rocky Mountains reminded Leo of his beloved Austrian Alps and many of his happiest hours were spent skiing, hunting and fishing. After retiring, he found his dream job as a ski guide for Stumbock Club. He was still heli-skiing and fishing into his late seventies.
Leo will be missed by Sabine, his wife of 57 years; daughters Audrey and Sandra (Gary Sandbeck); grandsons Joseph Beaudin (Chantel Debert); Jesse Beaudin and great grandsons Adam and Daniel.
A Celebration of Leo's Life was held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Creekside Hall, Canmore Seniors' Centre.
Flowers gratefully declined. Friends wishing to remember Leo may make donations, in his memory, to the Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation, 1100 Hospital Place, Canmore, AB T1W 1N2 for use in the Canmore Hospital or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, #200, 119 14 Street NW, Calgary AB, T2N 1Z6
The family would like to extend their heart felt thanks to the staff, and especially the nurses, at the Foothills Hospital Neurology and Neurosurgery Wards 111 and 112, for their excellent care, compassion and support of Leo and our family during this difficult time.
