Ken Pauls

It is with deep sorrow we report the passing of Ken Pauls, beloved husband of 53 years to Gaye, father of Kenny Pauls (Carmen),

Collin Pauls (Shannon) and grandfather to five adored grandchildren: Jordan, Kyle, Jared, Matthew and Sara.

Ken was born in Edmonton, Alberta and was adopted by Cornie and Anna Pauls three months later. He grew up on a farm east of Didsbury and loved life on the farm. He was passionate about animals and wanted to become a veterinarian when he was younger.

As a teenager, he instead became the dealer of an Esso Service Station in Didsbury. In his early 20's, his mother co-signed a loan for him and Didsbury Septic Tank was born. He would visit farms on his day off and pump out septic tanks. Business carried on this way until 1971, at which time he gained control of two more Esso stations in Canmore, Alberta. From then, until 1973, he and his young family would travel to Canmore to check on those stations. It was now time to make the move to Canmore permanent. He brought his septic tank business with him, renaming it Canmore Septic Tank.

In 1976 he purchased land in Canmore, and proceeded to build his own repair shop. This soon became Canmore's first automotive dealership, and in 1977 the doors of Can-Bow Motors opened as a General Motors franchise.

Ken was very active in the community.....a member of the Lions Club, and a minor hockey coach. Many a young player called him "Coach", a nickname that stuck, and was fondly used over the years. He was also instrumental in bringing a Junior A hockey team to the valley, the Canmore Eagles. He and Gaye billeted and formed lasting friendships with many of these players and their families.

In spite of suffering a stroke in 2003, Ken remained keenly interested in his business ventures that were now being carried on by his capable sons and daughter-in-laws.

Ken is also survived by three sisters: Marlene Budd, Mariann Miller, and Edith Bambullis, numerous nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-laws.

As a family, we are extremely appreciative of all the outpouring love we feel from all who knew and loved Ken.
