Kay Watt

d. February 17, 2017

Catherine ("Kay") Watt (nee Firth) was a kind and amazingly energetic woman who was born in Barrie Ontario in 1921. In 1946, as a newly graduated registered nurse, she "headed west" on the train for a job at the Mineral Springs Hospital in Banff. At the sight of the Rockies, Kay immediately fell in love with the mountains and soon after with Bob Watt – a Brewster driver – who she married the next year.

Four children followed.

Kay's career included roles in both the hospital and the Health Unit.

She was the first home care nurse in Banff. Community was very important to Kay – reflected by her dedication and passionate

service through the I.O.D.E, St. Mary's Parish, Hospital Auxiliary

and Mineral Springs Hospital Board.

Through the years, Kay enjoyed volunteering, bridge, golf, skiing, watercolour painting and especially walking. She was a loving wife, mother and friend. Her bright smile, sparkling blue eyes and kind words were a gift to those who crossed her path.

Kay was cherished by her children Mary Lou (Merle), Monica,

Bev (Jim) and Jim (Lorraine), and adored by her grandchildren Jennifer, Ian, Leah, John, Carli, Melissa and Dillon.

Great grandchildren Tayah, Tia, Mason, Lucas, Norah, Olivia, Ben

and Ari were a joy to Kay.

The family would like to thank Dr. Marriott and Dr. Hoegh – Peterson, and acknowledge the warm care of the Home Health Aides

(Kay's walking partners) and the extreme kindness of all our friends.

A mass was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday,

February 17, 2017. Celebration of life followed at the Banff Park Lodge, Summit Room.

Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired, donations may be made

to St. Martha's Place, Mineral Springs Hospital. P.O. Box 1050,

Banff, Alberta, T1L 1H7.

A random act of kindness in Kay's memory would make her smile.
