Karl (Henry) Ullrich

d. January 7, 2011

Karl Ullrich, beloved husband of Pauline (nee Dyrgas) of Canmore, went to be with his loving Saviour on the evening of Friday January 7, 2011, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He will be lovingly remembered by his three sons, Bart (Cheryl), Brian (Sharon) and Jeff, as well as his three grandchildren, Melissa, Michael, and Mark. Henry will be sadly missed not only by his family but by many long time friends.

Karl Heinz, known to many as Henry, was born in Czechoslovakia August 17, 1930. Henry was extricated out of the country at the young age of 13 yrs. old where he crossed the border by himself to East Germany. He worked at various jobs until he joined the American Army. In 1952 he immigrated to Canada and moved to Canmore where he worked in the coalmines. He met Pauline (nee Dyrgas) in Canmore and they married on April 24, 1954. Henry worked as a coalminer until the work became slow and he then joined the Canadian Army where he became a paratrooper.

Henry had varied interests and numerous talents.

Whatever job Henry did he did 110 percent.

His most rewarding moment is when he became "PaPa". He was a loving and supportive dad and grandfather to his children and grandchildren in whatever interests they had. He was dedicated to be being there for them in whatever way he could. He loved the game of hockey and his favorite team, as many know, was the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Papa's gentle and loving spirit will be missed not only by many friends and relatives but particularly by his children and grandchildren.

A celebration of Henry's life was held at St. Michael's Anglican Church Hall on Monday, January 17, 2011. Interment was in the Canmore Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to remember Henry may make donations, in his memory, to the Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation, Cancer Treatment Center, 1100 Hospital Place, Canmore. T1W 1N2
