Farewell from John (1960-2019)
John Staples passed away peacefully on Sept. 13... he finally got reprieve from his short battle with cancer.
John spent the last 40 years or so taking in life's pleasures in the
Banff area. He truly enjoyed the mountains and was grateful for his community of Banff. He met countless people through his work and various activities, whether they were locals, friends of friends or from
far away. Curling was one of his main passions and everyone knew when he was on the ice as a skip: he had the biggest voice out there.
As was John's wish, there will not be a memorial service.
He asked instead that people remember him while enjoying activities that they shared with him, whether it be hiking, biking, canoeing, x-country skiing, skating, curling or just hanging out.
He also requested that there be no legacy set up in his name.
He was very touched by the kindness of many friends, two legged and four legged ones, who offered support during his illness.
Should anyone want to make a donation or financial contribution of some sort, he suggested supporting the Palliative Care Society of the Bow Valley. There are plans and efforts in the works to set up a much needed palliative facility for our area.
Special thanks to Dr. Shigeishi for his dedication to John's care, as well as his staff. Also many thanks to all the health care professionals, and support staff, from Banff Mineral Springs Hospital, Canmore Hospital and Foothills Hospital who looked after him throughout his illness.
Also grateful for the help of Home Care and Palliative Care who made it easier for John to be at home as long as possible.
Services provided by Russ Reynolds and Bow River Funeral Service.
