John left this world to join his beloved Audrey on the 19th August 2019. He met Audrey in school and they were married on the 5th March 1949 and had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary when she past away in 2014.
John lived a very independent and full life. He was admitted to hospital on the 3rd August and even up to the 7th he was entertaining his many friends with his stories and jokes.
John was born in South Wales in the UK. He lived in a different age and post war he, like many , left school and joined the work force at the age of 14 , when he became an apprentice draftsman. Although he did not stay in that profession, he designed many park gates in towns all over the UK that still exist today. Even in his latter years, he was still doing family portraits and artwork. He changed professions after he married and went on to gain many certificates in engineering and sales.
John and Audrey came to Canada in December 2010 to join their family in Canmore. Here they made many close and treasured friends and after Audrey's passing, John was encouraged and supported by the community of Canmore. He spent many happy hours at the seniors playing Shuttle boarding, Curling and Bocce and he loved the church community and Monday meals. He was active and independent in all respects. He loved being an active member of his condo board and enjoyed the close knit community of his condo building. He was known for his sense of humor and ability to make those he met feel special.
He proudly became a citizen of Canada at the age of 90 in 2018.
He leaves behind his daughter Joy, son in law Charlie and grandchildren, Tom and Jenni.
The family would like to thank Dr. Quinlan and the nurses of the Canmore Hospital for their care and comfort during his last few days. They would also like to thank the many friends who made John's life so complete and supported the family when he was in hospital.
