John Krasnodemski

d. January 5, 2017

It is with great sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear dad, grandpa and friend, with family by his side, after a perfect Christmas day. He leaves to mourn his passing: his children Carole (Glenn) Nelson, John Jr., Jeannette (David) Small, Jim (Amy Krasnodemski), and Ronda Krasnodemski, his precious and beloved granddaughters Kirstie and AmyLee Nelson, and his dear loved companion Sylvia Szuszkiel. He was predeceased by his daughter Margaret in 1989 and his wife Lois in 2001.

Born and raised in Canmore, John was a true pioneer, whose passions and pastimes included golfing, cross country skiing, fishing and hunting, service with the Legion (including several years as President), volunteering, and "treasure hunting".

After 10 years in the Canmore Mines and 35 years with Parks Canada, Dad could be found on the trails of the Canmore Nordic Centre, both in summer and winter, on his bike as well as his skis. Over the course of many years, he also spent countless satisfying and rewarding hours volunteering there, helping to run local, national, and international races and events.

Dad was very proud of his contributions and achievements over the course of his life. These include:

*helping to build the present day Catholic Church

* being a peacetime veteran

* clearing hole #3 and helping to build the Canmore Golf Course

* volunteering for the 1988 Olympics

* torch bearer during the 2010 Olympics

* receiving the Mayors Award for Volunteer Excellence in Canmore

* being a "Face of Canmore"

* receiving the Palm Leaf – the highest award given out by the Royal Canadian Legion

The family at this time would like to thank the amazing, compassionate staff at St. Martha's Place in Banff who took such great care of Dad these last 2 years.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made, in Dad's name, to

St Martha's Place, PO Box 1050, Banff. AB T1L 1H7.

Funeral Mass was Celebrated at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Rockies Parish in Canmore on Thursday, January 5, 2017 followed by interment in the Canmore Cemetery.

A gathering of friends and family then followed at the Canmore Legion.
