Born Woking, Surrey, England, John passed away in his 93rd year peacefully at the Canmore Hospital.
John was pre-deceased by his wife Gloria in 2005 and his son
Michael James in 2006. He is survived by his two daughters,
Jacqueline and Cynthia, 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Better known as "Big John" in the Canmore Community, you have probably seen him driving around town on his scooter "Matilda",
always with a good story to tell.
John joined the Royal Navy FAA (Fleet Air Arm) at a very early
age, participating in the European Conflict before being sent
to the Pacific. His love of flying and everything aviation continued,
working with De Havilland Aircraft and AV Roe after moving to Toronto, Ontario. John always had interesting areas of endeavour, working with jet boats in the north, dog sledding, hiking, exploring and coaching swimming and lacrosse.
His love of the mountains, nature and wildlife brought him
to Canmore. The Great Outdoors brought him great pleasure.
John lived his life to the fullest and he cherished his time with family
and friends. He will be sadly missed by many and we will miss all of his adventurous stories.
Our sincere thanks to all the staff at the Canmore Hospital,
the Bow River Senior's Lodge, the Community Care Team and transParent Concierge, who all went above and beyond to offer
such excellent care.
Cremation has taken place.
A gathering will be held in the Spring 2018.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to remember John are encouraged to make a donation, in his memory, to the Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation, 1100 Hospital Drive, Canmore T1W 1N2 dedicated for use in the Canmore Hospital or Canmore Community Care.
