John Adler, a longtime resident of Canmore, passed away after a long battle with his health.
John is survived by his wife Merilyn, children Richard and Wendy, and grandchildren Dawn, Patrick, Nicholas and Victoria.
John was born in Budapest, Hungary and grew up in South America and British Columbia. He studied at UBC and received his doctorate in Physics at the University of Alberta, working for Esso in southern Alberta along the way. After teaching at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, he returned to the University of Alberta where he taught and performed research work in solid state physics
for 30 years.
After retirement, John fulfilled his dream of living in the mountains and settled in Canmore. He loved the town, its people, photographing the landscape and wildlife, as well as the skiing and hiking available -
once chalking up over 150 days of skiing in one year alone!
A memorial service and reception was held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014
at the Creekside Hall, Canmore Seniors Centre.
Services provided by Russ Reynolds and Bow River Funeral Service.
