Joe passed away on October 24, 2012 at the Canmore Hospital in Canmore, Alberta at a wonderful 90 years of age. He was predeceased by his dearly beloved wife Lydia, by his father and mother, Joseph and Elizabeth, his brother Dr. Paul Schwann, his sister Evelyn Ferguson, his son Douglas and grandsons Adrian and Cory. Joe is survived by his loving family including his daughter-in-law Joan and her children Alyssa and Samantha, his son Richard (Heidi) and their children, Sarah and Peter (Megan) and Lydia (Dave), his son Bill (Charmagne) and their children Jordan (Tabitha), Matthew (Melissa), his son Gary (Jane) and their sons Adam and Preston. He is also survived by his brother Dr. Gordon (Kathleen) Schwann, sister Vivian (Gerry) Beach and sister-in-law Phylis Schwann. Also warmly remembering him will be numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

After a fulfilling and rewarding life in Regina and summers at Regina Beach, Joe and Lydia moved to Canmore and spent the last 9 years enjoying being closer to family and a mountain lifestyle. Joe's life was one of love and commitment to his family for which he always had time to advise, provide comfort and give his support. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus.

The family would like to thank Dr. Andy Reed, the caregivers at the Canmore hospital and the Bow River Lodge, and all of Joe's relatives, friends and neighbors for their care, concern and friendliness.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday,

October 29, 2012 at Our Lady of The Rockies Parish Catholic Church, Canmore, Alberta with Reverend Bryan Frank, Celebrant.
