Jim Reeve

d. April 19, 2014

Jim passed away peacefully in Canmore surrounded by his family and the mountains he so loved.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Florence, daughters Debra and Kim (Gerald Costigan), grandsons Tyler and Geoffrey, his sister Marion (Al Roberge) and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his younger brother and trail buddy for years,

Gordon (Pat).

Jim was born in Banff and lived his entire life working, hiking, biking, skiing and fishing in the Bow Valley. The mountains were his passion and this passion and appreciation of the outdoors was passed down to his daughters and grandsons something Jim was particularly proud of.

He was an inspiration to anyone who knew him and had the opportunity to share time with him in the mountains.

He worked for Parks Canada most of his working career. His time as Backcountry Supervisor was his dream job, building and maintaining trails, huts and bridges in Banff Park for others to get into nature and enjoy the backcountry where he became a legend and was known as "Trail Boss".

Jim was a great source of knowledge on the history of Banff and he loved sharing his stories with everyone he met on and off the trails.

In retirement Jim and Florence travelled south for many years in the winter to enjoy biking, camping and hiking in Utah and Arizona.

When Jim was a teenager he volunteered for the Canadian Army Reserve and served proudly during WWII. He was instrumental in organizing and instructing at the Banff Legion Youth Athletic Club, an experience many kids growing up in Banff still remember. He was a lifetime member of the Banff and Canmore Legions.

Jim will be dearly missed by his family, relatives and his many friends.

A celebration of Jim's life well lived was held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Canmore.
