Jean Parboosingh

d. July 13, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Parboosingh. The cornerstone of the family, she will be deeply missed by her husband John, daughter Jillian, son Adam, daughter-in-law Tamara and three grandchildren, Mackenzie, Keaton and Harrison.

Jean was predeceased by her son Simon.

Elizabeth Jean Robertson Simpson, born in Jamaica on May 14, 1941, knew she wanted to practice medicine at an early age. She studied hard and at the age of 18 took the boat trip to Edinburgh, Scotland to attend medical school where she met her future husband John Parboosingh. She graduated from Edinburgh University in 1965 and went into general practise. In 1978 and with three children in tow, the family settled in Calgary where she embarked upon a new career in community health. She attained a MSc from the University of Calgary in 1985 and worked for Carewest for a number of years. John and Jean moved to Ottawa in 1993 where she worked as a senior medical consultant for Health Canada.

Being weekend Canmore residents for many years, it was always her intention to retire to the shadows of the Three Sisters. Retiring in 2001, Jean was able to come back to the area that gave her so much joy. A passionate photographer, she resurrected the Canmore Camera Club; organizing regular meetings, outings and participation in local art events. Along with photographic excursions that took her around the world, Jean enjoyed playing and watching tennis, a sport she learned as a child in Jamaica. Her desire to be in the great outdoors equalled her love of photography and tennis. Through winter cross-country skiing and summer hikes, the family endured many rest breaks so Jean could take the perfect picture. And then were reminded of those outings through numerous slideshow presentations in the evenings. On lazy summer afternoons and evenings, Jean was often found reading on the deck or attending to her garden. She passed on her fondness for the mountains to her children and grandchildren; she will never be forgotten as we continue to hike, ski and appreciate the mountains through her eyes.

A celebration of life gathering for Jean was held
