Jean Maschio

d. July 18, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Marie Maschio (Purcell). Jean was born in Calgary and raised in Duchess, Alberta. She attended Western Canada High School in Calgary and from there went to the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Education

where she discovered her true calling of teaching. Jean taught in Arrowwood for one year before accepting a teaching position in Canmore which she thought would be a short term adventure.

As fate would have it, she met and married Angelo "Spec" Maschio, a Canmore boy and she became a Canmore girl.

Jean was a woman of great personal strength and moral fibre and she was strongly committed to her faith. She had a generous heart and she reached out to those in need whenever she could. Jean was drawn to people. She enjoyed good conversation and learning about others and she valued the relationships created throughout her lifetime. She had a lifelong love of learning, an appreciation for travel, was passionate about cooking, and she loved chocolate.

Jean cared deeply about family and she was the 'glue'. She travelled from coast to coast to visit relatives and maintain connections but she loved nothing more than spending time in her own home surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She will be missed.

Jean is survived by her children Phyllis (Burnn) Chapman, Margie (Dan) Smith, Pat (Debbie) Maschio, and Kathy (Clare) Rose; her grandchildren Angie (Cam) Thiessen, Dave Smith, Mike Smith, Christine (Scott) Evon, Bryce Maschio, and Lauren Maschio; her great grandchildren James and Olivia Thiessen; her sister Marybelle (Norm) Archer; her brother Gerry (Bonnie) Purcell; her longtime friend and companion George Mandryk; and her special nieces and nephews Dave, Jill, Jackie, Russ, Greg, Jo-Ann, and Michael.

Jean was predeceased by her parents Matthias and Lida Purcell and her husband Angelo "Spec" Maschio.

Vigil Prayers for Jean were said on Wednesday evening, July 17, 2013 in Our Lady of the Rockies Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Canmore.

Funeral Mass was Celebrated on Thursday, July 18, 2013 also at Sacred Heart Church.

Jean was then laid to rest with her husband Angelo in the Canmore Cemetery.
