On the morning of February 25, 2012 Jean gently passed away surrounded by her family. After a courageous 4 year battle with cancer, Jean's last days were spent sitting in her favorite chair entertaining her family and friends. She never gave her illness the satisfaction of controlling her time and lived each day to the fullest.
Jean Beatrice Jansen (nee Bennett) was born in London, England as the youngest of nine children. She came to Canada on a working holiday in 1956 and fell in love with both Banff and her husband of 54 years, Walter. Jean worked for the Banff school board for several years and was an avid supporter and volunteer for the Women's Auxiliary at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. Jean loved her adopted home of Banff, the mountains and lakes of the park and her close circle of friends in the Bow Valley. Jean had many hobbies such as quilting, knitting, painting, golf and traveling the world with Walter.
Jean is survived by her husband, Walter Jansen of Banff, her sister Joan (Ross Angus) of Vancouver; her loving children: Karen Jansen (Wayne Sudds) of Calgary; Ross Jansen (Neda) of Canmore and Tova Jansen (Dominique) of Canmore and her devoted grandchildren: Reid and Ainsley Sudds, Kelsey and Ryan Jansen, Hanna and Kohinn Chevais. Jean faithfully stayed connected to her extended Bennett and Jansen families around the world and took great joy in their visits.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and thanks for the dedicated and loving support of Dr Lynn Marriott and her staff, Brenda Pelton and the Home Care-givers, the nurses and doctors of the Mineral Springs Hospital and the IODE.
A Celebration of Jean's life was held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at St. George's in the Pines Anglican Church with a reception which followed at the Banff Senior's Centre.
In lieu of flowers Jean asked that donations be made to the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital Memorial Fund, PO Box 1050, Banff. T1L1H7
