She was predeceased by her husband Harry in 1986, and also predeceased by brothers Jack, Jim and Bob Kane and sisters Bessie and Dorothy.
Jean was born in Drumheller, Alberta and moved to Banff with her family in 1928. While living in Banff Jean worked at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and the Banff Bakery before her marriage in 1946 and after, worked at various places such as the Alberta Motor Association and some summers for Travel BC at the Banff Information Centre, some of those as manager, while also raising a family. She and her husband Harry subsequently moved to Canmore in 1976. Following Harry's retirement from Parks Canada they spent much of their time in Christina Lake, BC as well as winters as snowbirds to southern parts of the U.S.
Following Harry's death, Jean became active as a volunteer at the Ralph Connor Memorial Church, the Canmore Hospital Auxiliary and the Canmore Seniors Association where she served a number of years as president. She loved to participate in activities and was part of a gold medal winning team at an Alberta Seniors Games. She also loved to spend time in her garden. She was a frequent volunteer serving hot dogs at many July 1 celebrations in Canmore. Jean also volunteered in Canmore during the 1988 Olympics at the Canmore Nordic Centre.
Jean also found time to become a word traveller going to such exotic locations as Alaska, Central America, Cuba parts of the U.K and Europe and the Mediterranean. She was particularly fond of junkets to the gambling mecas of Reno and Las Vegas.
Jean was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Colonel Moore Branch #26 in Banff and was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Canmore General Hospital for their efforts in Jean's final days.
