Jay Englot

d. November 24, 2018

Our community and beyond is deeply saddened by the passing

of Jason Englot.

Jay was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His move to Canmore in 1991, with his family, started a lifelong love affair with the mountains. The mountains were his solitude, that much was clear. When Jay wasn't giving all that he had to each and every one of his friends, he was chasing his own dreams. When it was snowing, he was flying down the slopes with his snowboard. Whether it be the groomed runs of Sunshine, or the fresh powder dropped on Ha Ling Peak, he was up for the adventure. In recent years, he discovered the wonder of the Japanese ski hills, and with what he shared on social media about his experiences there, you could tell that he really loved it. Jay never had a "bucket list" per se, he just took life one day at a time, and journeyed, travelled and adventured when the feeling took him.

Jay was also a passionate music lover. When he wasn't hitting the slopes, he was criss crossing North America chasing many different bands across the continent. He amassed a huge community of friends in doing this, and one glance at his Facebook wall tells us of the many people that he touched with his unassuming presence, friendly demeanor and true friendship.

Jay had a very peaceful and easy going attitude. His smile lit up any room that he entered and his unique laugh brought much joy to all who were fortunate enough to hear it. He made people feel completely at ease in his presence. When you were with him, you felt like you were the most important person in his world. He treated people with respect and love, and would be the first to offer help to anyone that needed it. Jay was always more concerned with others, than he ever was with himself. He was only good once everyone around him was good as well.

Jay listened much more than he ever spoke. He took in everything around him, and only contributed to a conversation when he really had something that was worth saying. His words were wise and had conviction and meaning, his understanding of the world was far reaching. Whatever he had to say, was always worth listening to.

Jay leaves behind so many friends and family members that loved him so much. He is survived by his parents Stan and Audrey, brother Jeff, sister Jenni and brother in-law Ryan. He is also survived by his Grandma Joan, many uncles, aunts and cousins both in Alberta and Manitoba.

Jay, your zest for life and adventure was, and will be infectious for all of us who are so privileged to have had you in our lives. We will all count our blessings for having had the absolute pleasure of knowing you and we will see you around in the most beautiful mountain tops on the best pow days when we are living our best lives. How you lived your life is an excellent example of living in the NOW. Be present. Be bold. Dream big. Take chances. Travel. Love fiercely. Laugh often.
