Retired RCMP Corporal Jason Gordon Knudtson died peacefully in the Canmore Hospital on April 16, 2017 at the age of 65 years.
Jason was born on November 4, 1951 in Canmore and is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Hrdlicka Knudtson; children Leisha Pinet Klein (Shane), Chelsea Knudtson Drangsholt (Randol) and Amber Knudtson Francis (Chris); Grandchildren Cailey, Kristen and Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents Gordon Knudtson and Ellen Knudtson Evans.
Jason left Canmore after school and started with the RCMP as a Special Constable at the Calgary Airport, later converting to a regular member. Throughout his career he was stationed at Princeton, Fort St. John, Agassiz, Chilliwack and finished 31 years of service with the Sumas Highway patrol. During his active service years he participated in raising funds to support children with cancer with the Bluey Day Foundation in Australia and participated on the RCMP Escort Team, where they escorted dignitaries such as Bill Clinton, Margaret Thatcher and Gandhi. The Escort Team also enjoyed teaming with the Canadian Snow Bird jet demonstration team as well as the United States Blue Angels and Thunderbirds at air shows on the west coast of Canada.
After his RCMP retirement in 2004, Jason moved back to his home town of Canmore. Work-life after retirement included truck driver and safety officer at Downer Contracting, safety officer at Shell Oil and lastly, safety advisor at the Sunshine Village ski resort.
Family came first for Jason and he enjoyed taking his grand-babies on camping trips. He loved riding his motorcycle and was a very active member of his community as he volunteered as an ambassador with the North West Mounted Police, served as Zone Chairman for the Lions club, and was on the Canmore Museum Board of Directors.
Memorial Funeral Service for Jason was held on Friday,
April 28, 2017 in St. Michael's Anglican Church hall in Canmore.
All were welcomed to attend and celebrate Jason's life.
