Jack Whitworth

d. November 13, 2018

John Frederick (Jack) Whitworth died peacefully at home early on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 in the loving presence of his family.

In 2005, Jack and Marion, his wife of 62 years, moved from Calgary to Canmore to be closer to "his mountains" and the activities that they both so enjoyed. Jack was happiest when on a mountain trail or in his workshop, turning one of his stunning segmented wooden bowls or working meticulously on his latest marquetry picture. In addition to his beautiful woodwork projects, he leaves an extensive photo collection of the wildflowers of Alberta, amassed over many years, to be shared and enjoyed by many.

While community involvement was always important to Jack, it was during his years in Canmore that he gave, and received, so much from these interests. His calendar was always full of activities with the Meanderthals, The Whyte Museum, Alberta Parks, Bow Valley Stewards, Girl Guides, Canmore Highland Games, Valley Winds

Music Association, The Calgary Stampede, and many others.

The friends he made in Canmore were very important to Jack and he always had time to share with them whether working on a project together, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, or just over coffee and a

good discussion. He also enjoyed travelling, especially to the Arctic, or sailing on the west coast and in the Caribbean with family and friends.

Jack was born in Fort Macleod, Alberta, on February 28, 1934. He received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta in 1955, followed by his CA designation in 1958. After twelve years in public practice, Jack moved into the oil and gas industry for the rest of his career, retiring in 1989. In October 2018, he proudly received recognition for 60 years of service as a Chartered Accountant in Alberta.

Jack will be sadly missed by Marion and his daughters, Maureen, Sharon (Tony Griffin) and Barb, but will be remembered every time they step onto a hiking trail or ski run, pick up a camera, or simply admire the beauty of the mountains.

Jack's grandchildren; Brendan (Nicole), Evan (Lisa), Lindsay (Colton), Ashley, Alyssa, Meghan, Hannah and Liam, will remember his love of the outdoors and the day they received his highest praise, "you've done good kid!". His great grandchildren; Kaleb, Bentley, Gavin and Kieran, while still young, will know him through stories and the lasting wood turned bowls to be passed through the generations to them.

Jack's family would like to express their appreciation for the comforting support of his many friends, Canmore Home Care, and the Rural Palliative Care team, that helped make such a difference over these past few months of Jack's life. At the family's request, donations may be made in his memory to the Palliative Care Society of the Bow Valley (www.palliativecarebowvalley.com).

A Celebration of Jack's Life was held on Friday,

November 30, 2018 at the Canmore Seniors Association.
