Jackie James Slavin passed away in peace on Sunday,
October 1, 2017 at the age of 84 years.
Born in Vancouver to parents Jack and Violet, Jack spent his early years on the West Coast before finding his home amongst the Rocky Mountains in Canmore. In 1956, he married Sylvia Eliuk, with whom he shared many adventures prior to her death in 2009.
Throughout his life, Jack was many things – a father, grandfather, husband, coal miner, camper, passionate sports fan, and perhaps most memorably for those who knew him well, a prolific storyteller. Be it close friend or mere acquaintance, no one crossed paths with Jack without learning of his greatest accomplishment – his four girls, Laurie (Kathy), Julie (Ken), Tracey (Robert) and Colleen (Roy).
After spending many years working at both Canmore Mines and Lafarge, Jack fell easily into retired life, and with Sylvia by his side, enjoyed several years as campground host, and avid fisherman at Spray Lakes. Jack also took great pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren, Lee, Christine, Melanie, Victoria, Scott, Michael, and Matthew. In his final years, nothing brought Jack more joy than seeing his great-grandchildren, Harper, Hayden, Easton and Everett grow.
Memorial gathering of friends and family took place on Friday,
October 20, 2017 in St. Michaels Anglican Church hall, Canmore.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre, 902B-7th Avenue, Canmore, Alberta TIW 3K1 in Jack's memory.
Services provided by Russ Reynolds and Bow River Funeral Service.
